“The Power of a Praying Wife,” by Stormie Omartian

thumbnail

I just finished reading “The Power of a Praying Wife,” by Stormie Omartian. I started reading it several years ago, right after Scott and I were married, but got stalled somehow and never finished it. I think the chapter on praying for my husband’s wife got me sidetracked. =)

In any case, I finished it this time and loved it.

Each chapter focuses on praying for a particular aspect of our husbands’ lives and character: their work, sexual fulfillment, finances, decisions, faith, future……it’s all in there. As each subject is addressed, you can see first, how it’s important in a man’s life, and second, how we – as their wives – play an important role in taking these areas of our husbands’ lives to God. Each chapter closes with a detailed prayer and scripture.

Prayer has always been an area of struggle for me, and because of that I’ve often felt guilty for not praying for those closest to me in the ways that I should. Yes, I pray for them, but I often get the sense that my prayers aren’t as specific and, consequently, as effective as they could be. This book showed me just how to pray for specific areas in Scott’s life, which is something I’ve begun implementing. I don’t pray for each subject every day, but as things arise, I now know how to best address them in my prayers. My life is joined with his, and the best thing I can do for him is to pray.

Beautiful, Jessica. Sounds like a book that we could all use to make us a better spiritual partner as well as a marital partner. I've wondered about this book. Now I know.
