My sister passed on some diapers to Leah a few weeks ago that her little one (not so little anymore, thank you very much) had outgrown. We’ve just moved up to size 3 (good gracious), so these came in handy.
What I didn’t bargain on was that the diapers were made, apparently, for a baby with a rump in the shape of Sponge Bob.
Seriously. They are the absolute worst diapers I’ve ever seen in my life. As soon as I get them on Leah, they crunch all up and the part of the diaper that is under the tab begins wiggling its way out until the stupid thing is hardly even still on her little tush. (I realize this makes the diapers sound as thought they’re alive. They might be. Seriously. These things are awful.) Every time I open her onesie to change her I cringe because I never know where the stupid thing is going to be.
When I told my sister how much I hate the things, she said, “Oh, yeah. I hated them, too. I use them for spit up rags or whatever just to get rid of them.”
All righty then.
However, as ridiculously shaped as the things are, they do hold them some fluid. That is, after all, the idea….so I shouldn’t complain too much. (Not to mention these were free. That's always good.) I just don’t think it’s too much to ask that the things stay where they’re supposed to be. (And where is that? On my baby’s NOT square tushie.)
The diapers in question: BabiesRUs brand. They’re cute, yes, with the little barnyard scene going on, but really. Come on now.
Also…..while I’m on the subject……
What’s up with cloth diapers’ expectation that my child has disjointed hips? We used FuzziBunz for awhile, and they worked really well. However, I always felt bad when I put them on her because despite the softness of the material, her little legs were all splayed out like she was going to go hippo-back riding or something. Looked like a little cowgirl, she did. It was crazy, and now that she’s needing to use her legs more for things like, oh, moving……those things just aren’t going to cut it anymore. We’ll stick to Pampers, thankyouverymuch.
What about you? Any beefs about diapers you’ve tried? What kind works for your little one?

I wrote a post similar to this one about diapers.
And I tried great value diapers once. They were cheap, and I'm always looking for a good deal, but they were so leaky! I never bought another pack!
I never liked Huggies because they didn't fit Story right and pampers were great, (especially the Swaddlers when she was a newborn) but we've been using LUVS for some time now...and LOVE them. They don't leak. they fit her nicely. And they are definitely cheaper than pampers!
Hi! Popping over from SITS Roll Call to visit.
I'm way beyond the diaper phase here so no opinion on that, well, except that NO diaper should be square!
You have a beautiful family there - how precious!
Have a great Thursday.
When my kids were little we used a diaper service that my grandmother paid for as a gift (very nice gift!) I looked forward to deliver day each week (not cuz the diaper man was cute) because of the wonderful smell of the fresh, clean diapers. I would put the bag in the middle of my living room and open it and leave it for a day. Smelled so good! Don't know if people still use diaper services now a days.
Thanks for following me. I'm gonna follow you too (I usually stay away from young mom sites just cuz I don't feel like I have anything in common anymore) but so far you've stirred a couple of great memories (and we are both sisters in Christ).
And keep the sister stories coming! have a great day!
I'm trying to find some cloth diapers that won't break my bank, currently. I found a website with some that look promising but I think I'll buy one and try it before betting the bank. If they fail, I'll just go the tri-fold path that my mom used on the first couple of us. They always worked well. You can adjust them how you like them! I was 17 the last time I changed diapers regularly, though, and since I never bought them I didn't pay attention to the brands--which is a moot point because each brands diapers are now probably unrecognizeable from the 90s so I couldn't give you a current answer. I do have to say I hated when they switched over to the soft feeling diapers from the plastic feeling ones. What's the point of making them soft on the outside? That's not the part that matters. It's like having a sweater that's soft on the outside and just normal on the inside. Makes you want to wear it inside out!
I use Walgreens brand mainly - only because I got them for dirt cheap. I have about 30 bags still to go through :)
I love Pampers or Huggies, but the extra cost isn't worth it.
The ONLY times it has been worth it to be are every few months the boys seem to go through "leakage" issues at night - peeing excessively through their diaper and waking up and needing to be changed.
I found that putting them in brand name diapers their pee was contained in the diaper - so even though the upfront cost for the pack was more they only needed 1 diaper per night and the sheets didnt need changing every night.
Stopping by from SITS...
I use cloth diapers (Bum Genius and Happy Heiny's) on my little guy. I personally love them. They are definitely bulkier than disposables, but I don't think they interfere with his movement. Maybe it was a fit thing for your little one?
I used disposables on my first and used Luvs. They are much cheaper than Huggies and Pampers, and they never leaked.
it has been years and years since i have had to buy daipers
Hi Jessica! Thanks for the comment about my little 8 month old guy.
We've used Pampers since July 1997...no breaks. I think we should get some sort of longevity award from them. Maybe a plaque.
Sam's Club diapers! They were my BEST friends.
My sister uses cloth diapers that she absolutely adores. She gets them on diapers.com and they are called Bum something. She gets the ones that have snaps and grow with the baby so you can use the same diaper as they grow.
