Oprah’s “No Phone Zone”

NPZ_HomeBadge

Oprah Winfrey has launched a campaign against texting and talking on cell phones while driving. I’m not a huge fan of Oprah – I don’t agree with a lot of things she has said and done – but I can’t think of any reason not to join this campaign.

The use of cell phones by drivers is a deadly problem. There’s just no other way to say it. When we do it (and yes, I’m admitting that I have done so on many occasions), we are endangering ourselves, our passengers, and others on the road who are innocently going about their lives.

This is not acceptable.

I’ve taken Oprah’s pledge to make my car a “No Phone Zone.” It won’t be easy for me. Because I live a considerable distance from town and going anywhere requires a good commute, I’ve gotten into the habit of using my drive time to make phone calls just to catch up with people. This has become increasingly common for me since Leah was born, as I’m usually not free to talk on the phone when we’re at home, but I have no excuse. Even as I’m doing it sometimes, I recognize that my attention is being split and that I’m not being as careful as I could be.

Unacceptable.

Won’t you take the pledge with me? Let’s make our roads safer for everyone. Go to Oprah.com and look for the "No Phone Zone" logo to find out how you can make the change along with me.

I'll take the pledge. I've pledged never to text while driving (which I've done once or twice) but talking on the phone is also somewhat dangerous. You (and Oprah) are right.

i totally, 100% agree with you.
and i am totally, 100% guilty of this and
really get mad at myself when i think about
it. especially because it's not just me in the
car anymore.

i'd like to take this pledge also!

My son is the best one to remind me that I should not talk and drive. Since then, I always pull over if my phone rings.

I broke my pledge not an hour after pledging it. I was driving to Jo-Anns early this morning to beat the storm and took a wrong turn and I had to call my hubby to get back on the right path. Doh!
