I recently had the opportunity to read and review Redefining Beautiful, by Jenna Lucado. In this book, Jenna (daughter of Max) writes to teenage girls about something that teenage girls are immersed: a cultural and personal obsession with beauty. As suggested in the subtitle (“What God Sees When He Sees You”), the book goes beyond the obvious ideas presented to girls about what constitutes beauty to show that beauty really is about something deeper and more lasting. Specifically, Jenna reveals the one essential element of true and lasting beauty: a father’s love…and even more specifically, the love of the Father.
This is a terrific book for any teenage girl. Girls are so consumed with conforming themselves to the latest idea of what beauty is, and I think that by reading this book, they would see in a new way that they are beautiful just the way they are simply because they are loved by their Father in Heaven.
I highly recommend this book to any adolescent girls in your life. I will warn you, though, that if you read it yourself, you might be disappointed. It is obviously geared toward younger girls, as Jenna’s language and illustrations are somewhat “young” themselves. It is a good read, though, and one that most anyone can benefit from reading.
Redefining Beautiful is available from Thomas Nelson Publishers and any retailer of Christian books.

3 of your thoughts:
I'm not going to read your review so that I can go into writing my own (hopefully) with an open mind. I have like one chapter left of my book and I am actually liking it so I should be able to request that one soon... that is if it's still there! I really want it so Dave can use it with the youth girls, you know? Anyway...that's why I'm not reading your post. I feel almost unfaithful to do so!
Great review! It didn't take long for you to read through it. Think you'll be able to use what's in the book for Leah down the years.
I am in the midst of these years with my daughter in 7th grade. I work hard trying to keep dialogue open, but sometimes I wonder if I push too hard---exasperating her.
A book might do the trick for both of us.
