Mondays are good for making friends.

Amber at a.e. filkins is hosting “Friend Makin’ Mondays,” and today’s topic spoke to me…..so here I am to tell you about my hobbies, wannabe hobbies, and so on.

First, she asks, “What are your hobbies?”

Honestly? Oh, dear. I’m afraid my list is a little….um…..indulgent. If I’m honest with how I spend my time, I’d have to say that these are my hobbies:

* being on the computer. Blogging, reading other people’s blogs (if you comment, I’ll follow, and will probably lose myself on your blog for a good hour), wandering around random money-saving websites, reading email…..

* watching TV. I’m thinking a media fast is in my future….but what am I saying? Then I’d miss “House.” All right….maybe in January, then. Nope……that won’t work either, because then I’d miss “American Idol” and “24.” Oh, goodness……it’s a sickness…..somebody help me…..

* taking pictures. Can’t help it. If you had this cuteness walking crawling rolling around your house all day, you’d take pictures, too.

* writing. I lo-o-o-o-ve to write. It usually comes out in bloggy form, but I am working on that book I mentioned. One day. One day it will happen.

* Bible study. I’m in one on depression and anxiety right now, and it’s amazing.

Now comes the category of “things I love to do but don’t spend nearly enough time doing.” You may notice some repeats.

* Bible study. Garsh. My priorities are pretty out of whack, and I need some serious readjusting.

* reading. I love me a good book, but I usually only read before bedtime, or if I should *happen* to wake up before I need to be up and can’t get back to sleep. Rare? Yes. Wonderful? Oh, yes.

* scrapbooking. With hundreds – nay, thousands – of pictures drifting around my archives, I am so behind. I really want to get better at finding time for this, because I want my daughter to have a treasury of family pictures when she gets older.

*writing. At the rate I’m going, my blog will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary and my book with have 10 pages. I need to get on it.

Now….finally…..the category of “things I wish I knew how to do.”

* sewing. My husband and sister-in-law gave me a fabulous sewing machine for my birthday last year, and I had every intention at the time of making clothes for my baby girl and all sorts of neat things. It, um, hasn’t happened like that. I’m having a hard time learning, what with my perfectionism and all, and it’s very, very slow going.

* gardening. My poor yard. My poor, poor neglected yard. Scott does a wonderful job on the grass part, but we’re in serious need of some bushes and shrubs and plants and flowers. I did plant some mums this weekend. Go, me!

I’m going to stop there, because this has gone on long enough….and if I let myself dwell on things I wish I knew how to do, I’m afraid I’ll get sad. There’s no room for that here.

Go on over to Amber’s blog to see other folks’ hobbies…..and maybe make a new friend!

Sewing is my number one thing I wish I knew how to do too. I just never took the time to learn. I dream of all the cute things I could make and all the money I would save (ie. curtains!) oh well maybe when I'm a grandma!

Isn't it funny how out of whack we get with our priorities? Just this weekend I was reminded that I have this precious time in the afternoon to spend with God while the kids are napping. What do I do?? Sit and write, blog, etc. on the computer!! I also need to readjust my priorities!!

Girl, sewing is NOT that difficult. It's the THINKING about how daunting sewing a garment might be that is difficult. And forget the perfectionism. You did SO GREAT on the bag you sewed and the blanket for Ashley Marie--you HAVE the talent but methinks you psych yourself out! Just pull out a pattern, read through it, start cutting it, and follow the directions. You can go to walmart and get the "very easy" ones to start with. Worse thing that could happen is you screw it up and then you're no further along than you are now! :-)

And I know how you feel about writing your book. I got SUCH a great start on mine, mostly because I was highly motivated by the HATRED I had for working at North last year, and then Summer hit and I had to work on the nursery and before I knew it Noelle was here and I hadn't written a think all summer! I tried to write some yesterday, but really only proof read some of what I'd already written previously!

Have I mentioned how I wish we lived closer together? I could help you on your sewing, you could motivate me on my book writing, and we could watch our children together!!

Oh well.

God obviously has a reason for having us so far apart.

Great lists! I should probably add blogging/internet stuff to my list. I am also guilty of that taking up a bit of my time.

You know, I think my perfectionist nature is what's kept me from learning to sew, now that you mention it! I always want to do things 100% perfect, and because I'm so bad at other crafty things, I think I suspect that I will suck at sewing, so I don't even try. Probably not the best attitude. I really ought to take a class or something. Thanks for sharing your list, nice to "meet" you!

Don't feel bad. I spend waaaaaaay to much time on the computer/other random peoples blogs. And watching TV.

You should give sewing a try! I consider myself a perfectionist as well, and maybe in a way sewing (and being mom) has helped me to be less of one...(not that it's a bad thing)

Happy Monday!
